Wine is one of the oldest cultural traditions in the world, yet in many ways the industry hasn’t kept pace with how people actually live, connect, and explore today. Instead of being an open door into culture, conversation, and flavour, it often feels like a maze of confusing labels, intimidating rituals, and gatekeeping. That doesn’t just keep people out, it discourages the very curiosity and play that makes wine worth enjoying in the first place. At PourPlay, we think it’s time for something different.
For centuries wine has wrapped itself in ceremony and exclusivity. Collectors and connoisseurs may thrive in that world, but for curious newcomers it often feels more like a closed club. Younger generations want experiences rather than lectures, and they want to enjoy wine without the pressure of knowing every rule before they take a sip

Pricing doesn’t help either. The rise of premiumization has made it harder to tell what’s worth the price tag. High cost doesn’t always mean high quality, but with little transparency or trust, everyday drinkers are often left guessing.
What’s missing most of all is community. Wine drinking is inherently social, yet most platforms are built around solitary reviews or critic scores. Where is the fun, the play, the joy of discovering new favourites with friends? Beer and spirits have already embraced digital communities, gamification, and playful discovery. Wine, by contrast, still leans on dusty critic columns and outdated scoring systems that speak to a different era.
That’s where we come in. PourPlay is building a space where wine feels playful again. It’s not about showing off, it’s about sharing, discovering, and connecting. Less lecture, more conversation. A place where tradition is respected but never intimidating, and where discovery feels like a game you want to keep playing.
We’re here to shake up a centuries-old industry not by discarding what makes it special but by making wine approachable, social, and fun again. Want to be part of the disruption? Join the PourPlay waitlist below
